A Rumored 'Hardcore' BMW M2 Could Get the M3's Engine

From Road & Track

A few months ago, we reported a rumor that BMW may be building a lighter, faster version of the M2. Considering that BMW regularly offers performance upgrades for its M cars, it would make sense that you'd be able to at least get a Competition Package for the M2. If the latest rumor is to be believed, though, this faster M2 will get a completely different engine.

BimmerToday claims that the car it's calling the M2 Clubsport will be powered by a mildly detuned version of the engine shared by the M3 and M4. It would potentially make 400 horsepower, making it a direct competitor for the Audi TT RS. The report also claims the M2 Clubsport will use a tuned version of the M3's suspension, as well as add lightweight components like a carbon fiber driveshaft and roof.

Obviously, we're going to remain skeptical until BMW makes an official announcement. But as much as we love the M2, we'd love to see the automaker build a more-powerful, hardcore version.
