If you often lie awake at night wondering why BMW never made a wagon version of its legendary E30 M3 sports car, you wouldn't be alone. From the factory, the first generation M3 came only in coupe-form, giving people little choice if they wanted a fun car that could also be practical. Someone in Texas wasn't satisfied living in a world without an M3 wagon, so they went ahead and made one.
This car started out as a regular old E30 3-Series Touring, which was imported from Switzerland where it (probably) lived a happy and peaceful live. When it got to America though, it underwent a full-on transformation.
The builder took the front and rear box-flared fenders off of an E30 M3 coupe, and slapped them on to the unsuspecting little wagon. Then, instead of simply swapping the S14 four-cylinder motor from the M3 in, the builder decided to shove in a 320-horsepower six-cylinder S54 engine from a later E46-generation M3, along with its six-speed manual transmission.
That, combined with E30 M3 suspension bits, big brakes from a Z3 M roadster, and an aggressive set of wheels and tires make this car one hell of a package. And since it's still so light, this M3 Touring franken-car has no problem lighting up the tires on demand, according to the seller.
If you've been thinking about making those M3 Wagon dreams a reality, here's your chance. You better act fast though, because despite its steep $65,000 asking price, we suspect this car won't be listed forever.
