Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety and Driver Assistance Rating:
Since neither Uncle Sam nor IIHS have crash-tested the Grand Cherokee SRT or Trackhawk, we cannot rate their overall safety. Meanwhile, these ferocious SUVs are fitted with an array of standard active safety features such as adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and self-parking assist.
Crash Test Results
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. NHTSA assigns cars an overall rating out of five stars. IIHS uses a different set of tests, grades cars on a scale of Good to Poor, and awards the vehicles that perform best across its tests with Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ honors, the latter of which requires that the subject’s automated forward-collision-braking system performs well.

Airbags, Child Seats, and Spare Tire Location
We installed a rear-facing child seat in the Trackhawk and had several issues. The LATCH anchors were buried between the seat cushions and difficult to access. The base of the child seat also required additional support to make it level, and the front passenger seat had to be slid forward.
Active Safety Features
Both Jeeps include the Grand Cherokee’s full suite of driver assists as standard. While this technology adds convenience and protection, it doesn’t make these high-priced family haulers any cheaper. But buyers will appreciate the adaptive cruise control, which works in stop-and-go traffic, and the self-parking assist that reduces anxiety when squeezing these handsome Jeeps into tight spaces.
