In addition to driving like an absolute tank, the LX has a number of standard active-safety features to give drivers a sense of security while cruising around in hectic traffic. In addition to adaptive cruise control, it features automatic high-beams, front and rear parking sensors, and lane-departure warning.

Crash Test Results

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. NHTSA assigns cars an overall rating out of five stars. IIHS uses a different set of tests, grades cars on a scale of Good to Poor, and awards the vehicles that perform best across its tests with Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ honors, the latter of which requires that the subject’s automated forward-collision-braking system performs well.

Airbags, Child Seats, and Spare Tire Location

Several issues arose when we attempted to install a child seat in the second row of the LX due to its optional rear infotainment screens. The screens are attached to the back of the front seats and jut prominently into the second row’s passenger space. This forced us to move the front seats far forward in order to wiggle a child seat into the second row. The process was made even more difficult due to the height of the vehicle and the LX’s shallow side step. Once the seat was in, it was not level and required extra shimming material to facilitate optimal installation.

Active-Safety Features

The hefty price of the LX is not for nothing, thanks in part to a lengthy list of standard safety features.
