The Journey's lackluster safety report card reveals that it's not the best choice when it comes to sheltering your precious onboard cargo. Its crash-test results are not great, and-what's worse-it offers none of the advanced active-safety features that are expected in other family haulers.

What’s New for 2019?

Despite the litany of safety and driver assists that are available on other Dodge models, the Journey still only has optional rear parking sensors. While its aging platform helps to make it affordable, most of its rivals have a host of high-tech features that make them more desirable. All 2019 Dodge Journeys have the same warranty coverage as the 2018 models.

Crash Test Results

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. NHTSA assigns cars an overall rating out of five stars. IIHS uses a different set of tests, grades cars on a scale of Good to Poor, and awards the vehicles that perform best across its tests with Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ honors, the latter of which requires that the subject’s automated forward-collision-braking system performs well.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Dodge's warranty coverage is basically average, and Journey buyers won't enjoy complimentary scheduled maintenance.

The Journey offers the least amount of corrosion protection in this group of competitors. The Kia Sorento has the best powertrain warranty with a whopping 10 years or 100,000 miles of coverage. Meanwhile, the GMC Acadia offers the first two years of scheduled maintenance visits as complimentary.
