Schumacher's 2001 Championship F1 Car Is for Sale

The Ferrari F1 car Michael Schumacher used to win the Monaco Grand Prix and F1 driver's championship in 2001 will come up for sale as a part of RM Sotheby's New York Contemporary Art Evening in November. Ferrari aficionados: This might be your chance to own one of the most legendary cars in racing history.

The car is a 3.0-liter V10-powered F2001, chassis number 211. It won both the Hungarian and Monaco Grands Prix with Schumacher behind the wheel in 2001, securing his fourth driver's championship (of seven total) and Ferrari's 11th constructor's championship.

The car, which is currently on display at Sotheby's Autumn Sales week in Hong Kong, is being auctioned off by Ferrari as a part of the company's 70th anniversary celebration.

But what if you want to do more than just stare at your legendary F1 car in a climate-controlled garage? Don't worry, Ferrari says the car is fully operational and ready for use on the circuit. The company is even offering to house it in Maranello, and transport it worldwide to Corse Clienti track events (the same Ferrari-hosted events where customer-owned track-only FXX cars are shipped). Of course, you'll have a squad of Ferrari technicians, mechanics, and test drivers at your disposal to keep everything in top condition.

RM Sotheby's spokesperson tells us it expects so bring in over $4 million on the sale of chassis 211. Seems about right for a car with this kind of pedigree.
