From Road & Track

The Jaguar XJ arrived on the scene in 1968 to replace the beloved Mark 2 sedan, and it's been going strong ever since. To celebrate its 50th birthday, Jaguar just released a new special-edition model, the XJ50, and it put up a YouTube video showing the XJ's evolution. It's a good reminder of how the XJ changed very little stylistically until the current model arrived in 2010.

Just watch to see what I mean-the change from the XJ350 to the current XJ351 is jarring, though not in a bad way. The current XJ is a handsome car, but more than that, it helped Jaguar break free from the constraints of its heritage, charting a new path forward.

The 2019 XJ50 is quite a lovely car, with unique exterior details and an interior filled with quilted leather to differentiate it with other XJs. It'll be only offered in long-wheelbase form with two engines, a 340-hp supercharged V6 and a 470-hp supercharged V8. More information on US-market pricing for the 2019 XJ50 and other XJ models will be released at a later date.

Until then, we're going to keep watching that video. And I'm probably going to hit the classifieds in search of an XJ of my own-XJ8s are temptingly cheap right now...
