The 2017 Formula One season is fast approaching, and everyone's hoping it'll be an exciting one. Last year's cars had room for improvement, and judging by the new cars we've seen so far, we're in for one hell of a season. Force India unveiled its new chassis-the VJM10-today at Silverstone, and driver Sergio Perez says all the new grip and downforce will put a lot more stress on the drivers.

Motorsport got the chance to talk to Perez at the unveiling, and he says the change from 2016 to 2017 is a huge jump in performance. "I had to start quite early working on my physical [fitness] – the new generation of cars being so much faster is like going from GP2 to F1. It's another step," he said. "Basically it will be a lot more demanding, the G-forces in the races we will develop with these cars are quite high; I have worked quite a lot in all these aspects."

GP2, like Formula 3, is a sort of "minor league" open-wheel series where young drivers make a name for themselves before they're picked to drive in Formula One. The cars are nowhere near as fast or grippy as F1 cars, which means these new 2017 entries are a real step up.

With wider wheels and an overall more aerodynamic package, the 2017 cars are shaping up to be the most exciting in years. Hopefully that means the racing will improve as well. We can't wait for Australia.
