  • Shelby American, the people who just rolled out the 2021 Super Snake and two other hot takes on the Ford Mustang, have turned their hands to the Ford F-250 pickup.

  • The Shelby F-250 Super Baja features the Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel engine that makes 475 horsepower and 1050 pound-feet of torque.

  • Shelby will make only 250 of the heavily equipped Super Baja trucks, priced at (brace yourself) $125,805.

People love tough trucks, especially ones that are optimized for off-roading. Interest and demand for the Ford Raptor and the Ram TRX prove that. So it's only logical that Shelby would combine the two names of Baja and F-250 to reach the big-truck customer base with the Shelby F-250 Super Baja. Has a ring to it, right? With a name like that, of course it comes with lots of off-road goodies plus the mighty Power Stroke, a turbocharged 6.7-liter V-8 diesel engine that produces 475 horsepower and 1050 pound-feet of torque. It also comes with a hefty price tag.

The Shelby F-250 Super Baja begins life as a 2021 Ford F-250 Lariat 4x4 with the Ford Ultimate package that rings in at $68,415. The Super Baja package from Shelby adds roughly $57,470 to the bottom line, bringing this truck to $125,805. That money buys you embroidered leather seats and floor mats with the Shelby logo, custom carbon-fiber inlays, billet racing pedals, and a serialized dash plate indicating the build number, which can also be found on the engine cover.

Underneath the Super Baja are the interesting bits that include a beefier steering stabilizer, custom radius arms up front, and a BDS lift kit. Shelby's front suspension uses heavy-duty coil springs with dual adjustable 2.5-inch Fox dampers to absorb rough terrain when things really get moving. To keep the rear axle's motions in check, Shelby fits the Baja with Fox 2.5-inch Fox external bypass dampers. Clawing into terra firma are 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM3 tires mounted to 18-inch Shelby aluminum wheels. The lighting is extensive: 11.8-inch LED fog lights, a curved 40-inch front light bar, and a 50-inch power-actuated light bar mounted to the top of the rack.

At $125,805, the Super Baja is a serious investment, especially when you consider that a F-250 that chugs diesel and equipped with the off-road Tremor package starts in the low $60,000s, roughly half the price of the Baja, but it also has nearly half the features. There are plenty of die-hard big-truck fans out there who'd agree the world could use more crazy three-quarter-ton diesel off-road trucks, even if they do begin approaching the price of a modest house.
