Yahoo Autos This Shop Is Building the Coupe Bentley Won't
Ever since the lovely Bentley Brooklands two-door was discontinued in 2011, we've been waiting for Bentley to introduce a coupe and convertible version of its Mulsanne limousine. It seems unlikely that will ever happen, so one German shop is taking matters into its own hands.
Mcchip-Dkr, a German tuning and racing shop, was tasked with transforming a run-of-the-mill Mulsanne sedan into a two-door coupe. Luckily for us, the team documented the entire transformation process, starting with a 3D scan of the chassis all the way to the fabricating necessary to assume a coupe shape.
As you can imagine, there's a ton of cutting, repositioning, shaving, and welding to do. According to the shop's website, the C-pillars had to be taken off of the car and redesigned, while the B-pillars had to be moved back to accommodate the longer doors. The rear window frame has been cut out and repositioned, while the roof has been replaced with a custom carbon fiber piece.
The Mcchip-Dkr team also had to create a new panel to fit between the B- and C-pillars where the rear doors used to be, as well as a corner window for each side.
The shop added its stage 1 tuning kit, capable of squeezing out 600 horsepower and 885 lb.-ft. of torque from the Mulsanne's 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8.
Of course, as we can see from the latest pictures, the Mulsanne two-door is still a work in progress. The interior is still pieces, and all the side glass is missing. We can't wait to see the finished product.
