Yahoo Autos Someone Put a Turbo Four-Cylinder Engine into a C6 Corvette Race Car
Corvettes are known for a lot of things. They're stylish, they handle well, and most importantly, they have V8s. But what if the racing series you want to field your Corvette in doesn't allow such big displacement? Swap in a smaller engine, of course!
At least, that's what Swedish shop MaxxTuning decided to do when it chose to field a C6 Corvette in the SLC Endurance race series. In place of the original 6.0-liter V8 sits a 2.3-liter Opel four-cylinder motor with a Garett GTX28 turbocharger attached.
Thanks to 14.5 psi of boost and E75 fuel, the turbo-four's able to make around 470 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at the crank. That's 70 more horsepower and 20 more lb.-ft. than what the stock LS2 pushed out. Not bad for having 50 percent fewer cylinders to work with.
MaxxTuning put up a video of the team testing out the new drivetrain on its in-house dyno, and-shockingly-it sounds nothing like a Corvette.
It probably handles better too.
