Yahoo Autos Spyker's Upcoming SUV Might Feature a Koenigsegg V8 and Hybrid Power
All the way back in 2006, Spyker, the low-production Dutch super car company, revealed it would be producing a 12-cylinder SUV called the D12 Peking-to-Paris. That never happened, and since then, Spyker's been through hell and back with financial woes. Now, according to Spyker's boss, the D12 might finally become a reality.
Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker, spoke with Autocar about his company's upcoming products, and he revealed a few interesting tidbits regarding the fabled Dutch SUV. "It will be an advanced hybrid SUV and one of the most beautiful cars of its kind," he said. "Its specifications are already set and, if things go well, I'd dream of showing it at the Geneva motor show in 2018."
Autocar says the upcoming SUV will use the new Koenigsegg V8- the same one destined for the C8 Preliator sports car. The car will retain the same Lotus-engineered aluminum platform designed for the D12 over a decade ago-meaning that, if we're lucky, the final product might look somewhat like the original 2006 concept seen above.
Muller also revealed plans to expand Spyker's product range with an entry-level six-cylinder sports car. "This will become a core part of our product range, giving us the volume and interest for a step-change in dealer presence and visibility," he told Autocar.
It seems that despite the company's small size, Spyker seems to have a lot to offer the car world in the next few years. We'll just have to wait to find out exactly what the Dutch firm has in store.
