Stick-Shift, Turbocharged 2017 Honda Civic Hits U.S. Dealers This Week

From Road & Track

Through August of this year, the Honda Civic has been the top-selling compact sedan in the U.S. and for good reason. It's a surprisingly fun-to-drive little car that offers a high-end cabin and quite a few desirable features. But if you wanted anything other than the base non-turbo Civic, you couldn't get it with a manual transmission. Until now.

Honda announced today that, starting tomorrow, you'll be able to get the turbocharged Civic with a six-speed manual transmission. Even better, if you choose to skip the CVT, you'll be rewarded with an additional 5 lb.-ft. of torque-up to 167 lb.-ft., with horsepower staying at 174. Honda hasn't announced acceleration figures with the manual, but the added torque may help it at least feel a little quicker.

The six-speed manual is only available on the mid-level Civic EX-T coupe and sedan, not fancier EX-L or Touring models. It starts at $21,500, $800 less than you'd pay for the CVT.

So you get a more fun-to-drive Civic, and you get a discount for choosing it? That sounds like a great deal to us. We're obviously looking forward to the upcoming Civic Si and Type R, but this is great news, too.
