Surveillance footage from a house in Cape Coral, Florida captured the moment when a Dodge Challenger that appeared to be racing a car behind it missed a turn, going airborne and landing in a canal. The footage is amazing to see, like something out of a movie.

Florida man takes off his pants to crash stolen truck into a pharmacy.

You can see the shocked driver struggles in the footage to get around the deployed side curtain airbags. This is something many people don’t think about, but with modern vehicles you pretty much have to cut those away to get through the window. We see police and other first responders do this all the time.

As the clock keeps ticking and the Dodge sinks more and more, a man jumps into the water to help rescue the driver. He’s able to pull the man trapped inside out the passenger window at the last moment as the rear end of the muscle car rears up like the Titanic before sinking into the murky waters.

One could say this was a Florida Man moment and not be entirely wrong. The only thing missing in the footage is alligators in the water. It’s probably a good thing there were none in the canal at the time, otherwise the situation would’ve been far worse for the driver and his rescuer.

Thankfully nobody was hurt in the crash, as confirmed by local station NBC2. However, the report confirms the person you see in the red shirt that’s standing next to the canal when the Mopar lands in it is a minor.

Neighbors are understandably upset about the incident, although they’re grateful the child wasn’t hurt. The situation easily could’ve been far worse, maybe even fatal. This is something too many people who race around in cars on residential streets don’t consider. We don’t like street racing at all, but one of the worse places to do it is in a neighborhood for this and plenty of other reasons.
