Back in the late fifties, the British Motor Corporation's Morris Division created the original Mini to provide transportation for the masses after the fuel shortage triggered by the Suez Crisis. Today, the classic Mini is more of a fashion item than a daily driver for most. For those who want to make a strong style statement but don't want old-car quirks, David Brown Automotive has announced a "Remastered" version of this iconic city car.

The Mini Remastered comes with twice as much power as the original, and modern-car reliability for just $62,350, although the cars you see here will cost closer to $90,000.

For legal reasons, David Brown Automotive starts the conversation job with a used Mini instead of a new body, only to trim its lines and de-seam the bodywork of its weld points. They keep the changes to the minimum, replacing the lights, adding multiple layers of soundproofing and painting the shells to a standard no Mini has been deemed worthy for before.

The interior is brand new of course, filled with the poshest leathers, milled aluminum bits all over, and a digital display that can mirror your smartphone. Naturally, there's no end to bespoke options either.

Under the hood is a heavily massaged version of the Mini's 1275cc four-cylinder engine, producing 78 horsepower at 5700 rpms. Sent through a tightened four-speed manual gearbox, that's enough to push the Mini Remastered to 90 mph flat out. Curb weight stays refreshingly low at 1631 lbs.

With two separate 25 unit special editions announced today and deliveries starting late 2017, don't expect David Brown to produce more than a few hundred of these overall. Mostly because this fancy Mini requires more than 1000 hours to build.
