Five years after it was released, Subaru's STI division finally got its hands on the rear-wheel drive BRZ, but it hasn't built the car the internet wants. Nope, this isn't a BRZ STi with a turbocharged engine. Instead the BRZ tS is a BRZ with its chassis honed for even better handling.

STi outfit the BRZ with new Sachs dampers and coil springs front and rear, and new V-braces in the engine compartment. Additionally, STi added draw stiffeners to the chassis and sub-frame, which Subaru says improves steering response. In contrast to the base BRZ, the tS gets 18-inch STi wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, which should be provide a big improvement in grip. Brembo brakes at all four corners are also fitted to the tS.

At this point, you've probably noticed the big wing on the back too. It's made from carbon fiber and manually adjustable, so you can add or reduce downforce as desired. The rear wing is complemented by new aerodynamic components at the front, rear, and underside of the car to promote more stability.

Inside there's lots of Alcantara, red accents and tS logos to remind you that, yes, yours is the raciest BRZ Subaru currently offers. Subaru launched the BRZ tS in its classic WR Blue Pearl, but it'll also be offered in black or white.

Subaru hasn't yet announced pricing and detailed specs on the BRZ tS, but the company says those should come later this year. The BRZ tS will arrive at US Subaru dealers early next year, and it doesn't sound like it'll be a limited edition, like the new WRX STI Type RA.

Surely, the BRZ tS will be a disappointment to those who think the BRZ needs more power, but we think you should give this car a chance. These upgrades sound like they'll make the BRZ an even better track car.
