When the Subaru SVX was new, it wasn't very popular. Strange, futuristic looks and a high price tag meant not many people were flocking to showrooms to own one. Nowadays, though, the SVX maintains a cult following among Subaru fans. With the values of cool '90s cars on the rise, this could be the next big thing in collectable Japanese automobiles. You should buy this one.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

The SVX was the top of the line for Subaru in 1992, with a starting MSRP of $24,445-around $44,000 in today's money. It came with a 231-horsepower 3.3-liter naturally aspirated boxer-six engine, paired exclusively to a four-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. No manual was available.

The most polarizing thing about the SVX wasn't the drivetrain, though. It was the looks. Designed by Giorgetto Giugairio, it was much different from anything else Subaru had in its lineup. The long front overhang is paired with a set of sharp, thin headlights, while the rear has a sort of two-step design highlighted by gloss black accenting. The side windows are made of two separate pieces of glass, with only the lower portion able to retract into the door-which allowed you stay dry at speed with the windows down in the rain, but wasn't very conducive to drive-throughs. The inside continues the offbeat trend with an L-shaped handbrake lever and a driver-focused center console.

This particular SVX, for sale on eBay Motors in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, seems to be in good condition considering its 130,665-mile odometer. There isn't any rust visible from the pictures, and the only wear seems to be on the seats. Find it here with a minimal bidding action so far and six days remaining. Considering this car's condition, we'd expect it to sell somewhere near $10,000. Better get to bidding.
