Yahoo Autos Super GT Changes Race Date Because of the WEC
Last week the World Endurance Championship (WEC) announced it would be moving its Fuji race date one week forward so as not to clash with the US Grand Prix. This allows Fernando Alonso - who is competing in both championships this year - to participate in both races. The only problem is, it's caused a few conflicts for a couple of other events.
According to WTF1, the Super GT series in Japan has announced it will push its October 14 race at Autopolis back to October 21 so as not to clash with the WEC's new Fuji race weekend. Ironically, Super GT previously had to move its race from the 21st to the 14th so as not to clash with the WEC's original date. Now, it has to do it again, all because of one popular F1 driver.
The good news is, drivers Kazuki Nakajima and Kamui Kobayashi, who compete in both Super GT and WEC, will now be able to race in both events without conflict. It's a different story for WEC drivers planning on racing in Petit Le Mans, however.
Both the WEC Fuji race and IMSA Petit Le Mans are set to happen the weekend of October 14. According to WTF1, IMSA has refused to move its race date, meaning drivers planning on competing in both events will no longer be able to. We've reached out to IMSA for confirmation.
