  • The 2025 Volkswagen Golf R is expected to show its full face later this year.

  • Volkswagen updates the styling for the 2025 Golf R.

On the heels of showing off the updated Golf and Golf GTI lineup, the folks at VW are teasing the most powerful Golf model’s updates. Despite its formal reveal scheduled for the middle of 2024, VW brought a camouflaged 2025 VW Golf R to the ice race in Zell, Austria. Even though this Golf R is stylishly camouflaged, we can see that it’s sporting some styling changes from the current model.

While we don’t know what kind of powertrain details sit under this camouflaged hood, it’s highly likely that the current EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 will carry over. Currently, this turbocharged I4 sends 315 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque when it’s connected to the seven-speed automatic.

Sadly, you won’t be able to option a manual transmission into a Golf in the United States after 2024.

As far as changes, we can see that the ‘25 model sports a different front fascia than the current Golf R. This updated front fascia from the Golf R follows the styling changes heading to the rest of the Golf lineup in 2025. We’re expecting a similar update for the ‘25 Golf R’s interior, as well.

Details about the Golf R are still to come during its formal reveal later this year, but this mid-cycle update seems like it will be a relatively light one. Still, taking away the manual transmission automatically bumps the price on ‘24 models.
