Cheap, high-mileage M cars aren't known for their reliability. Trust me-I've experienced this firsthand. But if you're willing to take on the risk, this sub-$10,000 2008 BMW M3 could be the perfect V8-powered convertible for you.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

This E93-generation M3 is listed on Craigslist in New York with an asking price of just $9800. No, that's not a typo. The main reason for the price seems to be the mileage-around 190,000 according to the ad. If you're familiar with these 2000s BMW M engines, you'll know they often have to undergo some serious mechanical repairs. Rod bearings, throttle actuators, and VANOS solenoids are just a few of things that can go wrong once the mileage starts to creep up. This is the cheapest running, clean-title, undamaged V8 M3 I've ever seen for sale.

Other than the mileage, the car looks to be in surprisingly good condition. The panels are straight and seem to line up nicely, and the paint looks fairly even. The hardtop convertible mechanism appears to work as intended, as does the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The only signs of wear that I can see are some parts of the interior and the "M" badge color fading on the trunk lid. The ad says the car is in need of brake pads and rotors, along with an ambient temperature sensor. Also, the tow hook mount cover on the front bumper is missing.

If you're in the market for a modern V8-powered M car, this is probably the cheapest one out there that isn't wrecked or broken. But just know, maintenance is almost certainly going to bite you back in the long run. Don't say we didn't warn you.
