Ten Cars We Loved at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show

We just got back from a whirlwind week covering the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Lots of cars made their debuts in and around the LA Convention Center, but these made the biggest impression on us.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV was one of the worst kept secrets of the LA Auto Show, but that didn't make its reveal any less exciting. Alfa promises the 510-hp Quadrifoglio version will be the fastest SUV at the Nurburgring, and it's easily one of the prettiest.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 was a pleasant surprise. Chevy got in the factory off-roader game kind of late, but the ZR2 has hardware that'll make it a serious challenge to the F-150 Raptor. It's an old-school off-roader, and we can't wait to try it.

Jaguar's all-electric answer to the Tesla Model X is unsurprisingly gorgeous and promises to be genuinely great to drive. Equipped with a 90-kWh battery pack, and motors at the front and rear axles, the I-Pace will hit 60 mph in 4 seconds and has a 220-mile range. It's a concept for now, but we'll see it in production by 2018.

The last-generation Honda Civic lost its fun-to-drive character, but the new one brought it back big time. We love the standard Civic Coupe, but the upcoming Si (previewed in concept form here) is the one we really want. The Civic Si is turbocharged for the first time but a six-speed manual remains the only transmission option.

We're not big crossover fans here, but we dig the Mazda CX-5. Why? Well, for starters, it looks great, and you can have it with a diesel engine or a manual transmission. An affordable crossover for people who love driving. What a concept.

AMG went quite overboard with the new E63 sedan. Its 4.0-liter V8 cranks out 603 horsepower in the E63 S model, and its all-wheel-drive system has a drift mode. You have to appreciate the lunacy of a luxurious family sedan with this sort of performance capability.

Porsche did it. The company got rid of the 911's classic rear-engine layout in favor of a mid-engine design for its newest race car. Controversial? Perhaps. Cool? Definitely.

Is it surprising Lamborghini made a rear-drive version of the Huracan Spyder? No, but we couldn't care less. We think rear-drive Huracan Coupe is the best Lamborghini on sale today, and the all-wheel-drive Spyder is great too. A rear-drive Spyder should be a winning combination.

For 2017, IMSA will run an all-new, top-level racing class, Daytona Prototype International (DPi). Mazda was the first to reveal its new DPi, and my word, it's a looker. The RT24-P's 600-hp four-cylinder is a carryover from Mazda's previous race car, but everything else is all new. It'll make its debut at the Daytona 24 Hours in January.

Rezvani isn't a name you may be familiar with, but its newest car, the Beast Alpha, could be a world beater. The Beast Alpha packs 500 horsepower in a sub-2000-pound car, and it's also got the coolest doors we've seen in a while. Rezvani, you have our attention.
