After years of delays, the Tesla Cybertruck officially began select deliveries back on November 30. Now that customers have had their hands on these electric trucks for a few weeks, some footage of them on the trails has started to emerge online. Unfortunately for Tesla, the trucks look less than impressive in the wild.

On paper, the Cybertruck should be a solid off-road performer. Both dual- and tri-motor models provide all-wheel drive and up to 845 hp, while an adjustable air suspension system allows for 17 inches of ground clearance. The suspension setup is put to the ground via a set of 20-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch rubber, helping the truck achieve approach and departure angles of 35 and 28 degrees, respectively. That said, the truck is large but not unruly, measuring in at 223.7 inches long and 95 inches wide with the mirrors out. For reference, the longest F-150 you can buy measures in at 243.5 inches.

Tesla has aimed to combat the size with a trick four-wheel steering system, which should give trucks a noticeably tighter turning radius. And while that might be true, it didn’t seem to help the drivers in this first clip posted to TikTok.

In this video, we see a group of Cybertruck drivers tackling a relatively open switchback on a dirt trail, each requiring a reverse maneuver to make it through. While comical to watch, the truck itself doesn’t appear to be at fault. Instead of taking the wider line necessitated by most trucks, the owners all turn in fairly tight. That’s a natural habit, particularly if you haven’t done much off-roading. That said, it is possible that the truck’s steer-by-wire setup hadn’t found an appropriate ratio for the trail.
