Tesla teases dates for SolarCity products and merger vote

Tesla announced some key dates for its shareholder vote, financing information, and solar roof product unveiling.

Tesla is teasing upcoming dates related to its merger with SolarCity (SCTY).

In a blog post Wednesday, Tesla (TSLA) set Nov. 17 as the date when shareholders will meet and vote on the deal.

On Oct. 28, the companies will reveal the previously announced solar roof product, "which along with Powerwall 2.0, will show the kinds of products that the combined company will be able to create," the blog post said.

Tesla will also share "additional financial information relating to its plans for the combined company" on Nov. 1.

Any Tesla shareholder who held shares as of Sept. 23 should receive proxy materials in the mail, according to the update.

Tesla first offered to buy SolarCity in late June. Since then, the deal has been criticized by skeptics for a variety of reasons, such as being a poor use of Tesla's cash or a distraction for Tesla executives.

Tesla has addressed criticism by saying SolarCity's business will complement Tesla's stationary storage products (such as the Powerwall and Powerpack) to form a fully integrated sustainable energy system, and that combining solar and storage has long been part of his total vision. In his Tesla blog post "Master Plan, Part Deux" CEO Elon Musk said the goal to provide solar power "has literally been on our website for 10 years."
