What is it with all these low-mileage performance coming up for sale? It feels like we see a virtually new BMW M car, Ford GT, or something else similar at least once a week. This week, it's a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II with only 885 miles on the clock that's up for auction.
This ultra-rare Mercedes will be sold on September 3rd at Silverstone Auction's Salon Prive sale in the UK. It's one of only 502 190E Evo IIs ever made, and just one of four sold new in the UK. As you'd expect, it'll likely command a significant price–Silverstone estimates between $235,000-287,000 (£180,000-220,000 GBP).
That's a lot of money for what originally started life as the affordable Mercedes-Benz, but the Evo II is as special as they come. It's the ultimate road-going iteration of Mercedes' Group A homologation specials, and comes with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing an amazing 235 hp. Completing the package is an outrageous aero kit, the likes of which had never been seen from otherwise-conservative Mercedes-Benz.
The owner who originally purchased this car stored it at the dealer for the first 10 years of its life, and drove it very infrequently. As such, it's in virtually new condition inside and out.
Will this car's next owner drive it, or preserve it in its current state? There's certainly an argument for the latter given how valuable these homologation specials are, but we hope it's the former.
