A Boston man saw his dream destroyed on June 10th, when the 1987 Buick Grand National he loved was stolen — and, even worse, wrecked. The suspected thief wrecked the rare Buick after crashing into between 15 and 20 other cars, according to WBZ-TV CBS Boston.

On Monday afternoon, a thief used a screwdriver to steal Dennis Harrington's
highly collectible Buick Grand National in the Dorchester area of Boston, Harrington told the news station. It turns out that the suspect is not only a thief but also a terrible driver; the stolen Buick was spotted on home security video speeding down streets and crashing into myriad parked cars. After causing damage to nearly 20 other vehicles, the suspect climbed out of the Buick and fled on foot. Police are still looking for the person responsible.

Having any car stolen is a traumatic and frustrating experience. But saving up for three years to buy your dream car, putting $150,000 into it with the plans to someday pass it down to your son, then having it stolen and destroyed is heartbreaking. Unfortunately for Harrington, that's the situation he says he finds himself in.

"He literally just wrecked my life by joyriding the car for no reason. It just makes me sick, Harrington told WBZ-TV. "There's no way I'm ever going to replace that. Insurance is never going to cover it."

Buick built slightly more than 20,000 Grand Nationals in 1987. The turbocharged V6 engine was good for 245 horsepower and a 0-to-60-mph time of roughly seconds. These iconic cars have become increasingly rare and valuable in recent years. Harrington invested heavily in his car, but he realizes that insurance will never cover him for all of the money that he has spent on it. When asked about the suspect, Harrington said, “I hope he gets what’s coming to him.”

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to call the Boston police.
