Ole Miss basketball signee Jordan Burks changes mind on playing for Chris Beard, seeks release

OXFORD — Three-star Ole Miss basketball signee Jordan Burks has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent.

Burks, who played his high school basketball for Southern California Academy, is ranked as the No. 167 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Burks originally indicated he would remain committed to Ole Miss following Chris Beard's introduction as coach before reversing course Wednesday.

A 6-foot-7 forward, Burks reported offers from other schools, including Florida, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Marquette and SMU.

Should he choose to play his college basketball elsewhere, that would make two defections from the four-player class signed by former coach Kermit Davis in the 2023 cycle.

The first of those departures was guard Josh Hubbard, the all-time leading scorer in the history of Mississippi high school basketball. He committed to play for Mississippi State earlier this month.
