Top 5 Bike-uriosities - Week of April 3 2017

At Bike-urious, we’re spending all of our time finding the most interesting motorcycles that are currently for sale for you to drool over (and maybe empty your wallet for).

1. Japan Domestic Market – 1986 Suzuki GSX-R 750 Limited Edition

I don't know if it there's a more special variant of the early Gixxers in the US. This here is a JDM version of the instant-classic Limited Edition of Suzuki's GSX-R 750. And it's already registered and plated in the states. The Limited Edition is special because it was just so much better than everything else at the time - it weighed 60 pounds less, it had a $2000 dry clutch, remote reservoir rear shock, wider rear wheel, 41mm fork, NEAS anti-dive system, steering damper, solo seat with cowl, larger brakes...the list goes on and on, and it's why the Limited Edition cost 50-percent more than the base bike.

But the JDM version is even cooler in my opinion, thanks to extra features that Americans didn't get (and of course, the rarity). Said features included flat slide carbs, black exhaust, a fuel gauge, and several pieces that the NHTSA would not have allowed - headlight on/off switch, city lights, tinted turn signals, no side reflectors, etc. To be fair, I think the red/white/blue scheme of the US Limited Edition is better looking, but I have to imagine it'd be hard for a 80s Japanese sportbike enthusiast to pass up on the JDM version.

This example (VIN: GR71G100138) has 7,986 miles and the seller says it's a 9.5/10 in terms of condition. The cosmetics are in good shape and there are no mechanical or electrical issues. The bike was just given a service and new tires and it should be ready to go.

2. 1980 Italjet Pack 2

In the 60s, Italjet produced a folding scooter called the Kit Kat. It was designed for pilots and sailors who found themselves at a destination without wheels. A couple of decades later, the Italian company modernized the idea with a scooter they called the Pack 2. It's not what I would call the prettiest scooter ever made, but the clever design has earned it a place as one of only three motorized two-wheelers that are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

The motor is a Piaggio 49.77cc two-stroke unit that produced 1.4 horsepower. The Pack 2 rides on 13-inch wheels, and it weighs 85 pounds. It's 38-inches tall with the bars up, or 23-inches when the bars are folded down.

This example has been modified as the pedals were removed and the rear brake lever has been moved to the right side. It does not have a title and because there is no odometer the mileage is unknown. The biggest flaw would be a crack in the plastic cover around the fuel tank. Find this Pack 2 for sale in Coram, New York with an opening bid of $999 here on eBay.

3. Bring The Family - 2006 Harley with Sidecar and Trailer

Thanks to a two-person Hannigan sidecar and a Little Guy camper, this Harley is ready to carry four people and all of their stuff - or just two people that want to sleep with their bike. I'm trying to remember the last time I saw this amount of weight added to a motorcycle.

Let's start with the sidecar. The seller doesn't explicitly identify it but it looks to be an Astro 2+2, which has a starting price of $6425. The base models come with a removable hard top, locking trunk, Progressive suspension, and a 2-inch powdercoated steel frame. The trailer is either a 5 Wide or 6 Wide unit from Little Guy, which is their traditional design.

The bike (VIN: 1HD1PRE166Y956825) has 19,000 miles but it's unclear how many of them were spent towing the sidecar and trailer. The seller should be able to tell you that information easily, as he is the original owner. He's apparently gone cross country with the camper and the longest trip with the sidecar and camper together was 250 miles. 4. Ex Leon Camier SBK Racer - 2016 MV Agusta F4 RC

Last year, Leon Camier competed in World Superbike for MV Agusta RC (Reparto Corse). Though he did not earn any podiums, he did crack the top ten with an 8th place finish over the season. Somehow, his race bike has made its way to Newport Italian, who are willing to give it to you in exchange for $129k. Camier had some reliability issues during the season - hopefully you won't have to worry about that.

As you would expect from a factory race bike, this MV is impressive. The motor produces over 220 horsepower! The components are all top notch as well - Ohlins TTX suspension, Valtermoto rearsets, Magneti Marelli electronics with dash, EVR slipper clutch, Brembo brakes, SC Project exhaust, and plenty more. The question for me is, what do you do with a bike like this? Is it collectible enough to warrant time on display? Or is it better suited as the ultimate track toy for someone who's got plenty of money?

5. One Owner – 1983 Honda CB1100F

It was heavy, but it was fast. In fact, when Cycle World tested the CB1100F (an evolution of the CB900F) in January of 1983, they called it the fastest stock bike they had ever tested as it was able to hit over 140 miles per hour.

While I personally prefer the Pearl Shell White/Candy Pearl Capiolani Blue paint scheme, this example doesn't look bad in Pearl Shell White/Candy Pearl Maui Red. Wet weight was around 580 pounds, but thanks to the 1062cc, 108-horsepower motor you could hit 67 miles per hour in first gear. The US got an optional chin fairing and a slightly different seating position than the rest of the world, and magazine reviewers considered the $3698 MSRP to be a good deal.
