Toyota announced Wednesday that it will be recalling approximately 280,000 vehicles as they may “inadvertently creep forward at a low speed” when in neutral. According to the automaker, certain parts of the transmission may not disengage when shifted to neutral which will allow power to be transferred to the wheels. This condition can lead to an increased risk of a crash.

The vehicles involved in the recall are 2022 to 2024 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600 models. However, the announcement from Toyota did not include the specific versions of the potentially affected vehicles. It also did not specify the part of the transmission that may be faulty. However, it appears to be more of a software issue than a hardware issue. To remedy the situation, Toyota and Lexus dealers will update the software for the transmission in any impacted vehicles at no cost to the customer. Owners who are impacted by the recall are expected to be notified by late April 2024.
