Truck’s cargo collides into I-95 overpass, closing part of the Palmetto, troopers say

Part of the Palmetto Expressway is closed off Friday evening, likely to cause heavy traffic for commuters trying to get home, after a truck’s cargo hit an overpass, reports say.

The crash, which took place on the westbound SR-826 under the overpass on I-95 that links back to the Palmetto, was reported around 2:20 p.m. to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a tractor trailer hauling construction machinery was driving west on the Northwest Seventh Avenue exit on SR-826 in that area. The machinery was too tall to go under the overpass and collided into it.

Expressway cameras show traffic blocked, and crews can be seen working. Engineers are inspecting the overpass before it is allowed to reopen, troopers said.

The Florida Department of Transportation is closing ramps and travel lanes near the Golden Glades Interchange until further notice due to the crash.

Other closures include:

Westbound SR-826 is closed to traffic just east of the Florida’s Turnpike

The ramp from westbound SR-826/NW 167 Street to westbound SR-826 is closed

However, commuters can still get to the northbound Florida Turnpike from westbound SR-826/NW 167 Street.

This is a developing story.
