This Turbo Mid-Engine Civic Is Everything That's Right About Project Cars

From Road & Track

Over the years, the Honda Civic has built a reputation for being affordable, reliable, and fun to drive. Because of those qualities, Civics have long been popular starting points for people who want to customize their cars. But while modified Civics are relatively common, mid-engine Civics like this one are definitely not.

And that's what makes this car so awesome. There's absolutely no reason anyone would ever need to build a mid-engine Civic, but this guy wanted one. So he made it happen. Then he twin-turbocharged it.

The best part is probably the fact that the owner says he didn't start off intending to go so far. But as many Canadian gearheads have said before, it "started as a kijiji deal turbo build that got out of hand." Thinking the power was being wasted on a front-wheel-drive car, he did the only logical thing and decided to convert it to rear-wheel drive and move the engine to the back.

Sure, it probably loud, smelly, and unrefined. And yeah, he probably could have spent less money on a "better" car. If he'd done that, though, he wouldn't have anything nearly as interesting or rare.

Well done, sir. Well done.
