Tuscaloosa area top performers: Mallory Sluder pitches Southern Academy to AISA softball title

Here are the top performers for the third week of May from Tuscaloosa-area boys and girls high school spring sports:

Softball

Friday

American Christian Academy's Sarah Deerman's walk-off RBI scored the winning run in the AHSAA playoffs in a 6-5 elimination game win against Madison County.

ACA's Charlie Mak Lester hit a triple in Game 1, an 11-3 loss to Dale County, at the AHSAA state playoffs.

ACA's Molly Barger hit a triple vs. Dale County and scored on an error to give ACA a 5-4 lead vs. Madison County.

ACA's Sarah Williams hit 3-for-4 vs. Madison County with three singles, one RBI and one run scored.

Holy Spirit's Claire Laubenthal hit 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple, two RBIs, a run scored, two stolen bases and one walk in a 7-1 AHSAA 1A playoffs win against Cedar Bluff.

Northside's Becca Leigh Chadwick hit for two RBIs and threw five strikeouts in a complete game in a 4-3 loss to Geneva in the AHSAA 4A playoffs.

Northside's Chloe Cedotal's RBI gave the Rams the winning run in a 3-2 AHSAA elimination game win against Brooks.

Northside's Chloe Perry had a fifth-inning RBI in a 4-3 playoffs loss to Dale County.

Monday, May 9

Southern Academy's Mallory Sluder pitched every game in both the AISA regional and AA state championships to lead her team to back-to-back state championships. The junior finished the season with 329 strikeouts and 1.54 ERA. At the plate, she set a school record with 13 home runs and had a .375 percent batting average and .500 on-base percentage.

Southern Academy's Sluder, Trinity Wilkinson, Leah Beth Stewart and Audrey Marsh were selected to the AISA AA All-tournamentteam.

Baseball

Friday, May 13

Hillcrest's Luke Williams pitched a complete game to give the Patriot's a 6-3 Game 1 win win against Pelham in the AHSAA 6A playoffs. Hillcrest lost the semifinals series, 2-1.

Wednesday, May 11

Gordo's Jase Neel hit a two-run RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning against Mobile Christian to send the game into extra innings in a loss in the AHSAA 4A playoffs semifinals.
