Twelve Awesome but Obscure V12 Engines

From Road & Track

When it comes to smoothness and refinement, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better engine configuration than the V12. Essentially two inline sixes joined together, V12s are inherently balanced. As a result, they're popular in both exotic supercars and high-end luxury sedans. But some of the coolest V12s are a little bit more obscure than what you'll find in a Ferrari F12tdf or a BMW M760i.

For example, in the 1960s, GMC built the Twin Six V12. Based on GM's 351 V6, it displaced a massive 702 cubic inches (or approximately 11.5 liters). And while it only made 275 horsepower, it made a stump-pulling 585 lb.-ft. of torque. The one downside is that it weighed a full 1500 pounds, making it only suitable for commercial vehicles.
