Two People Sent To Hospital After Safety Car Crash During Heritage Exhibition Prior to IMSA Rolex 24

A safety car pacing a Heritage Exhibition field on the 3.56-mile road course at Daytona International Speedway crashed sending two people to a local hospital.

The crash happened Saturday morning hours prior to the start of the IMSA Rolex 24.

The yellow BMW appeared to be one of the Michelin Pilot Challenge safety cars and it paced the TCR field on Friday. Pictures on social media showed the damaged car sitting on the backstretch.

The track later released a statement confirming the crash:

“Following an incident exiting the backstretch chicane during today’s CHRA, LLC Heritage Exhibition laps, two individuals were transported to an area medical facility for further evaluation. The incident will be reviewed by CHRA, LLC and Daytona International Speedway.”

The Heritage Exhibition is a demonstration featuring former Rolex 24 cars that normally takes place prior to the main event, the IMSA Rolex 24. The Rolex 24 took the green flag later Saturday and will conclude Sunday afternoon.
