When Porsche unveiled its newly updated 2021 Panamera this summer, there wasn't any mention of our favorite variant, the Turbo S E-Hybrid. We feared this would spell the end for the brutally fast trim, but alas, we were wrong. The range-topping E-Hybrid is back, and it's more powerful than ever.

Porsche was able to squeeze an additional 13 horsepower from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 under the hood of the Turbo S E-Hybrid for 2021, for a total of 563 hp. Combined with a 134-hp electric motor, total output is up to 689 hp, making it the second most-powerful car in the company's lineup, behind the 750-hp all-electric Taycan Turbo S. Like the new Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, the Turbo S E-Hybrid benefits from a new 17.9 kWh battery that Porsche claims is "27 percent more energy dense than before."

The result is a claimed 0-60 time of just 3.0 seconds for the sedan and Sport Turismo wagon variants, and 3.1 seconds for the long-wheelbase Executive trim. Both times are 0.2 seconds quicker than before, according to the carmaker. We were able to squeeze a 2.9-second 0-60 time out of the last Turbo S E-Hybrid in testing, so we're betting these numbers are a bit conservative. Top speed is 196 mph, up from 192 in the previous car.
