The new Santa Fe isn't just more boldly styled, it's also bigger than its predecessor in almost every way.

Along with a 1.9-inch-longer wheelbase that now stretches 110.8 inches, the 2024 Santa Fe grows by 1.8 inches overall to 190.2 inches. It's about a couple inches taller too but just as wide.

The mid-size SUV's H-shaped lighting elements are intended to help identify it as a Hyundai model. Because the company's name starts with "H." Get it?

For the people who don't know any better, they might confuse the new Santa Fe for a Land Rover Defender. The Hyundai is also available with 21-inch wheels for the first time.

While the outgoing Santa Fe that was sold in other markets offered a third row of seats, the U.S. versions did not. That changes with the fifth generation, which sees the extra seats return. The space is said to be roomier than ever too.

Not only has the new Santa Fe's exterior dimensions grown notably larger, but it now has more passenger space and increased cargo capacity.

Hyundai says the larger rear iftgate provides a bigger opening, which in turn will help make loading and unloading stuff easier.

The Santa Fe that will be sold in North America will offer two powertrains. There's a 277-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that has an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. There's also a hybrid powertrain that pairs a 1.6-liter turbo four, an electric motor, and a six-speed automatic. That all-wheel-drive configuration is expected to make around 226 horses combined.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will go on sale in the U.S. sometime in the first half of next year. While pricing hasn't yet been announced, we expect the mid-size SUV to start at just under $40K, with the top-spec model likely starting around $50K.

The Santa Fe XRT concept previews a potential production off-road variant. Along with its various add-ons, which include GoPro mounts and a ladder to access items on the roof rack, the rugged concept has BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and what appears to be a lifted ride height.
