The Toyota Land Cruiser left the U.S. market after the 2021 model year, but now it returns with eye-catching styling and riding on a new body-on-frame platform. While its interior has fewer upscale materials, it has a modern design and offers myriad fresh features that can be seen in the photos below.
While the base 1958 trim level is more utilitarian, the Land Cruiser shown here features leather-trimmed surfaces, including front seats with heated and ventilated cushions. These amenities are standard on the First Edition and optional with the Premium package, which isn't offered on the 1958 model.
Stepping up from the entry-level Land Cruiser nets a large 12.3-inch touchscreen. Other upgrades included with the Premium package are a head-up display, power-adjustable front seats, a sunroof, and a 14-speaker JBL stereo.
In another display of the new Land Cruiser's tech-centric interior, there's a large fully digital gauge cluster with configurable views that provide various information, vital and otherwise.
The Land Cruiser's center console features a physical shift knob surrounded by various buttons functions such as the locking center and rear differentials. There's also a pair of cupholders and a spot to wirelessly charge a smartphone.
Looking for the least expensive Land Cruiser? Well, that'd be the base 1958 model shown here, which has cloth seats and a lot of grayscale surfaces. Toyota says it'll start in the mid-$50,000 range.
We had the chance to sit in the new Land Cruiser, and while it's just over an inch shorter than its U.S. predecessor, it has the same 111.2-inch wheelbase and is an identical 78 inches wide. We sat inside and found the accommodations to be comfortable.
The 8.0-inch touchscreen that's standard on the 1958 trim level is an inch smaller than the one found in the 2021 Land Cruiser, it features Toyota's latest infotainment software, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
All 2024 Land Cruisers have driver-assistance technology that includes lane-keeping assist as well as adaptive cruise control. Those functions can be controlled via buttons on the right spoke of the leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Unlike the Land Cruiser that was last sold stateside and offered seating for up to eight people, the new version only offers two rows of seats, limiting seating to five. That also affords plenty of cargo space behind the second row.
The Land Cruiser First Edition will have a limited production of 5000 U.S. copies. Toyota says the new SUV will go on sale here sometime in the spring of 2024.
