Chevrolet's first foray into the bourgeoning electric pickup segment is the 2024 Silverado EV, which will launch to consumers later this year as an upscale RST First Edition model. To tide us over, Chevy let us drive a simpler fleet-oriented 4WT work truck model that's on sale now.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will launch to the public this fall, but fleet customers can get their hands on one now with the 4WT work-truck model.
The Silverado EV 4WT model starts at $79,800, making it eligible for a $7500 tax credit.
The Silverado EV only comes as a four-door crew cab with a five-foot-11-inch cargo bed. Dimensionally, it is similar in size to a conventional crew-cab Silverado.
The 4WT model features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain rated for 510 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque.
The Silverado EV is based on the underpinnings of the wild GMC Hummer EV SUT, with the 4WT model sharing the GMC's monstrous Ultium battery pack, which we estimate at 215.0 kWh of usable capacity. The EPA rates it at 450 miles of range.
Chevy has updated the 4WT model's towing and hauling capacities, which now stand at 10,000 and 1440 pounds, respectively.
The fleet-oriented 4WT model's interior is a case of function over form. Dark, hard plastics are everywhere, and the displays are modestly sized by modern standards, yet the cabin's ergonomics are smartly executed and there's tons of space to stretch out.
The 4WT has a flat floor and a fold-up rear seat, but it lacks the removable mid-gate bed extender that fancier models will come with.
The Silverado EV's frunk can swallow a generous 11 cubic feet of stuff.
