People who want to work hard and also play hard will appreciate the 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2. That's because the newly revealed model is just as capable of towing and hauling heavy loads as it is climbing over rocky terrain or getting dirty in muddy environments.
Chevy already offers ZR2 versions of the mid-size Colorado and full-size Silverado 1500, but now it's adding a fun-loving version of the hard-working Silverado 2500HD.
The ZR2 model is distinguished from other heavy-duty Silverados with its gigantic black grille, which features a cool flowtie emblem. A set of red front tow hooks will also come in handy should this beast need help getting unstuck.
Just because the ZR2 is built for off-roading doesn't mean it can't tug an obscene load. This trailer is but a fraction of the three-quarter-ton truck's 16,000- to 18,500-pound max tow ratings.
The ZR2's pièce de résistance is undoubtedly its exotic spool-valve dampers. The Multimatic DSSV shocks are equally equipped for keeping things composed on the road and under control off of it.
The Silverado ZR2 is outfitted underbody armor that would make a Brinks truck proud. There are bash plates below its chin as well as plating to protect its transfer case.
These 18-inch multispoke wheels are wrapped with Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T tires, sized 305/70R-18. That means they're 35 inches tall, which is the first time a Silverado has had 35-inch tires installed from the factory.
At the top of the ZR2 hierarchy is the Bison variant, which adopts exclusive equipment from aftermarket supplier American Expedition Vehicles (AEV).
The Silverado 2500HD ZR2 Bison adds steel-stamped front and rear bumpers, tough steel bash plates, and AEV-specific 18-inch wheels painted in gloss black.
Sure, the heavy-duty ZR2 likes to play in the dirt, but we think its interior looks better clean. Chevy says it chose cabin materials that are easy to wipe down, and the large digital displays are part of the 2024 Silverado HD's refresh.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD ZR2 will start production later this summer. It and the Bison model will be built at GM's assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, and we expect them to start around $80K and $88K, respectively.
