Nissan has sharpened the reflexes of the 2024 Z-car with a track-ready NISMO version. But does the new top-spec model's improvements and automatic-only configuration justify its inflated price? We find out.
The Nissan Z NISMO sits atop the 2024 Z-car lineup with a host of improvements designed to fortify it for use on the racetrack.
For NISMO duty, the Z's twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 is bumped up to 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque.
Unlike the lesser Z models, which can be had with either a six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic, the NISMO gets only the latter. Improvements include quicker shift times and better performance-oriented shift logic from a new Sport+ drive mode.
More aggressive bumpers, lower body extensions, and a taller rear spoiler help improve the Z NISMO's aerodynamics and cooling abilities.
The new variant starts at a pricey $66,085. Ticking that NISMO box on the Z order form amounts to a $12,780 upcharge over the next-rung-down Performance model.
Chassis enhancements include underbody reinforcements, as well as firmer springs, larger dampers, and new anti-roll bars. Handling is much improved, yet the ride remains comfortable on the street.
The Z NISMO's upgrades add about 100 pounds of mass. We estimate it will weigh around 3700 pounds and get to 60 mph in the low-four-second range.

The Z NISMO's interior changes are highlighted by new model-specific Recaro sport seats that offer greater lateral support in corners.
Red accents, such as those on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, dot the Z NISMO's cabin.
Larger front brakes sit within new lightweight 19-inch forged aluminum wheels. Sticky Dunlop summer tires significantly enhance grip.
