The Vision Neue Klasse concept car gives us the best look yet at BMW's future electric 3-series sedan. Here is a close-up look at the newly revealed concept.
Shown at the 2023 IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept car previews the brand's new design language.
The name Neue Klasse was first used in 1962 on the car that would eventually become the BMW 2002, a vehicle that was credited with saving the brand at the time.
The design of the new concept car draws inspiration from the original Neue Klasse, but with modern elements such as this backlit faux grille that pulses as if to show the car breathing.
The flat profile is interrupted by just one low-mounted character line that serves to connect the front and rear wheels while keeping things simple.
The concept's 21-inch wheels have been carefully designed for aerodynamics, but the camera-based rearview-mirror system won't likely make it to production.
What will make it to production, though, is the concept's Panoramic Vision dashboard, which projects infotainment info on a large black panel that runs the length of the base of the windshield.
The retro-future theme continues inside with a set of midcentury-inspired bucket seats with yellow corduroy upholstery.
Thin roof pillars and large expanses of glass give the concept an open and airy cabin, with excellent outward visibility for the driver.
Overall, we'd say the design is smashing, and we're hoping the production version retains a lot of the same styling elements.
The next-generation 3-series could debut as soon as 2025 and likely go-on sale as a 2026 model.
