The Vintage-Styled Caterham Sprint Celebrates 60 Years of the Lotus 7

From Road & Track

The Goodwood Revival is a yearly celebration of vintage race cars that takes place again this weekend. To celebrate the event (as well as the Lotus Seven's 60th birthday next year), Caterham has announced a vintage-themed version of its Seven 160 called the Sprint.

The 160 is a far cry from the face-melting 620 R. Under the hood is a turbocharged, Suzuki-sourced three-cylinder engine that makes only 80 horsepower, 230 less than the top-level 620 R. But the Caterham Sprint is about nostalgia and style more than outright speed.

As a result, the chassis is powder-coated gray to match the look of the earliest models, with bodywork available in six original 1957 paint colors. You also get a number of other retro touches like cream-colored wheels with polished hubcaps, vintage-style rear lights, and a polished exhaust.

Inside, the retro theme continues with a wood steering wheel, faux wood dash, and period-styled gauges. The seat upholstery and interior panels are also covered in red leather, while the luggage area and the rest of the interior are carpet-upholstered in true 1960s style.

Sadly, only 60 Caterham Sprints will be built, and none will make their way to the U.S. But if you live in Europe or the U.K. and have £27,995 to spare (approximately $37,000), one of these retro-styled sports cars would make a great addition to your garage.
