Volkswagen's Monte Carlo WRC performance wasn't just good. It was a barnstormer, a 1-2-3 clean sweep that locked up the podium and made VW only the fifth auto manufacturer to post such a decisive victory.

It's not that there wasn't competition: seven-time Monte Carlo Rally winner and nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb brought his Citroën to a hard fight. But VW's newly-revamped Polo R WRC proved near-unstoppable, and drivers Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala, and Andreas Mikkelsen clinched the top three spots, respectively.

The sweep makes VW the fifth manufacturer to own the podium at Monte Carlo, joining the likes of Renault-Alpine (1973), Lancia (1976 and 1989), Audi (1984), and Citroën (2003).

The victory helps confirm the Polo R's dominance, hot on the heels of VW's back-to-back 2013 and 2014 WRC championships. And it's the second year in a row Ogier and VW have had the top spot at Monte Carlo.

Quite the finish.
