Volvo Teases Polestar Engineered S60 Model
Polestar may be its own brand now, but it will also continue to act as the performance arm of Volvo for the foreseeable future. A new Polestar Engineered trim line offers upgraded performance to the upcoming third-generation Volvo S60 T8 as well as its V60 T8 wagon and XC60 T8 crossover SUV counterparts.
With its turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter inline-four and electric motor, the gasoline-electric hybrid S60 T8 will be made even more powerful in Polestar Engineered form thanks to a revised ECU. Volvo claims the powertrain upgrades add 15 horses and 22 lb-ft of torque to the sedan, for totals of 415 horsepower and 494 lb-ft.
A number of dynamic features accompany the Polestar Engineered S60’s additional power, including adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and a strut-tower brace cribbed from the 600-hp Polestar 1 gasoline-electric hybrid coupe as well as a pair of gold-painted six-piston Brembo calipers for the front brakes. The big binders clamp down on massive slotted discs and are covered by a sultry set of 10-spoke wheels. Other Polestar Engineered–specific cues include black exhaust tips, gold seatbelt straps, and the requisite Polestar badging.
We’ll have to wait until next week to see the all-new South Carolina–built Volvo S60 in its entirety. Expect the high-performance Polestar Engineered model to combine the best attributes of the V60 wagon with the powerful persona of the Polestar 1 and the elegant looks of a sedan.
