Performance Volvo lovers, rejoice! The safety-oriented Swedish brand has just announced new Polestar Engineered versions of the 2020 V60 wagon and the 2020 XC60 crossover, as well as the 2020 S60 sedan. If the name is familiar, that's because we've already seen a Polestar Engineered car. Last year, Volvo offered the 2019 S60 Polestar Engineered for a very brief amount of time and in very limited numbers. Here's the gist: Polestar, Volvo's performance arm (and now its own stand-alone electric-car brand) takes a T8 plug-in-hybrid Volvo, increases the power, enhances the chassis, and makes it even better to look at.

As in other Volvos, the T8 powertrain is a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter inline four paired with two electric motors and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Polestar's tuning brings the T8 powertrain to 415 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque, increases of 15 horses and 22 lb-ft over the standard T8, and new software tweaks send more torque to the rear wheels and give faster throttle responses. Polestar also adds adjustable Öhlins dampers, a front strut bar, and larger six-piston Brembo brake calipers.

The Polestar Engineered cars are distinguished by new forged wheel designs, gold brake calipers, subtle Polestar badging, and gloss-black trim on the grilles, exhaust tips, and other exterior components. To our eyes, the XC60 looks the best out of the three thanks to its unique wider fender flares and even-bigger wheels, but it's not like any of Volvo's 60-series cars are anything less than gorgeous already. The interiors get gold seatbelts and a black color scheme with seats finished in nappa leather and an "open-grid textile."

The S60 Polestar Engineered was very limited in production, with only 20 were produced for the 2019 model year, and all were "sold" through the Care by Volvo subscription program. This 2020 run of cars will be different, though. A Volvo spokesperson told C/D that the 2020 S60, V60, and XC60 Polestar Engineered models will be produced in higher numbers than the '19 S60, and they will be sold through "traditional channels," not the subscription program. Since we never got real pricing for the S60, it's tough to estimate what the new trio will cost to purchase outright, but they're each sure to be thousands of dollars higher than the $55k-60k asks of the regular T8 S60 and XC60. (The V60 isn't currently offered in regular T8 form.) The new Polestar Engineered models will be out this summer.
