Watch a 1500-HP Twin-Turbo Viper Blast a 9.8-Second 1/4 Mile

From Road & Track

The Dodge Viper TA, when new, came with 640 horsepower from the factory. For most of us, that's more than enough power to live out all of our horsepower fantasies. But apparently, for one owner, that number wasn't nearly enough.

That's where the twin turbos came in. The result is a jarring 1500 horsepower going to the rear wheels. Aggressively sticky tires work hard to put that power down.

While it (understandably) takes a few tries to launch the car off the line smoothly, the driver is eventually able to set a solid quarter-mile time: 10.1 seconds at 167 mph. A different run netted an even quicker 9.8-second elapsed time, but with a lower trap speed. While cars like the new Tesla Model S P100D can get into the 10s, anything with a license plate will have a tough time approaching that trap speed.
