Tuthill Porsche is a world-renowned Porsche rally shop in the United Kingdom. For years the guys at Tuthill have been building race-prepped P-cars to compete on every kind of terrain. They've even homologated a 911 GT3 to participate in the FIA World Rally Championship in Europe. But Tuthill is especially known for its presence in the East African Safari Rally, an event that tests cars and their drivers through the countries of Kenya and Tanzania. It's considered one of motorsport's greatest challenges, where cars are pushed to the limit on every stage.
What does Tuthill bring to the event? Air-cooled 911s, of course.
In 2013, Tuthill took a team of 17 air-cooled Porsche 911s, along with a total crew of 120 members, to compete in the rally. All of the cars were built from the ground up to survive through the violently rough stages, with skidplates, push bars, and heavy-duty suspension.
Tuthill took a documentary crew to film the team's experience, start to finish. Although they weren't able to secure an outright win, all 17 cars made it to the finish line. With the biggest single rally team ever assembled, having all cars cross the line under their own power is nothing short of spectacular.
