Watch the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Use Its Tire Smoking Drift Mode

From Road & Track

Mercedes announced the new E63 AMG yesterday, and unsurprisingly, it makes a lot of power. You get 563 horsepower from the regular version, and if you spring for the E63 S, it comes with a whopping 603 horses. Like the previous version, the E63 uses an all-wheel-drive system to send that power to the ground.

But if you have visions of all-wheel drive sapping the fun out of your favorite German muscle sedan, you couldn't be more wrong. Because the E63 has a drift mode. And unlike the drift mode in the Ford Focus RS, the version the E63 uses disconnects the front axle entirely. Perhaps "rear-wheel-drive mode" would have been more accurate, but it doesn't sound nearly as cool.

In case anyone still had concerns, Mercedes released a promo video for the E63 that includes plenty of on-track drifting. And it looks like an absolute blast. Yes, there's a bit towards the end about the E63 still being a comfortable road car, but the real highlight here is the drifting.

Let's just say we can't wait to drive this thing.
