Watch a 700-HP Mercedes 6x6 Drag Race, And Ponder Mankind's Achievement

From Road & Track

Just gaze upon what we've got going on here. A Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6, tuned by Brabus, wearing a mounted African buffalo on its roof rack, lining up at a supercar airstrip drag race meetup.

This Mercedes monster truck comes from the factory with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 cranking out 544 horses, but too much is never enough. Brabus turns up the power to 700, giving this outrageous Benz enough turbo snarl and exhaust growl to make a Peterbilt and a Nascar racer blush at each other.

Watch in dumbstruck awe as it lines up against a Rolls-Royce Phantom. It's not going to win-the Benz bruiser weighs as much as a nice-size Airstream camper trailer, with a wheelbase best measured with a yardstick and unsprung weight that rivals a monster truck.

But just watch the thing move. Listen to it roar. And ponder a world where Mercedes-Benz, the legendary purveyor of restrained, quietly opulent luxury sedans and meticulously engineered safety devices, can produce such a sky-darkening monument to wretched excess. One that, implausibly, can be legally driven in Europe, but was never officially imported to the United States. And that, despite the conspired resistance of gravity, aerodynamic drag, and the social construct, can rocket off the line like a muscle car weighing half as much.

Does this accomplishment register as Good, or Evil? We leave that to another discussion. Like a hydroelectric dam that can do wheelies, we're rendered momentarily helpless by the sight of this thing at work. Mankind, you've outdone yourself.
