The GT8 is Aston Martin's way of saying goodbye to the Vantage, a car that's been around since 2005. It's lighter, slightly more powerful and a lot more track-ready than a "regular" V8 S, and that makes all the difference as far as the driving experience goes.

Unfortunately, Aston won't bring any to America, while elsewhere, the GT8 may seem rather overpriced for 440 horsepower in a 12-year-old platform. Plus, there's a small issue with its pace.

Despite Sport Auto's Christian Gebhardt giving it his best around the Nordschleife, the numbers don't lie. The Aston Martin Vantage GT8 does a lap in 7:50, neck and neck with a front-wheel drive Honda Civic Type R, and just behind the hottest Volkswagen GTI.

Of course, the Aston looks better and sounds far meaner than any Honda or VW could ever hope to while lapping the 'Ring.

Aston's next Vantage will be AMG V8-powered and much faster. All they have to get right is the looks, because the outgoing model is nothing less than a design icon.
