The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon may offer sub 10-second quarter-mile runs from the factory, but if you're willing to go aftermarket, even the cheapest Audi RS model can come close to matching it. Case in point, this 600-wheel-horsepower Audi RS3.

Noted Audi and Volkswagen tuner APR brought its RS3 development car to the drag strip last weekend to test out some of the company's latest upgrades, and managed to lay down a handful of impressive times. The fastest was a 9.83-second run at 144 mph. That's just 0.18 seconds off the Dodge's quoted time for the Demon. Of course, to squeeze all that performance out of the RS3's 2.5-liter inline-five, a lot of work needed to be done.

According to the video description, APR's RS3 features upgrades to the turbo internals, fuel system, and intercooler, plus a new intake, ECU tuning with E85 fuel, and straight-pipe exhaust. Additionally, the passenger seats have been removed, and the car sits on Hoosier drag radials.

Considering the cost of an RS3 plus all of those mods, we'd guess pricing for this setup would end up near the MSRP of a Demon (APR says these mods are more prototypes and proof of concept things, however). Really, it comes down to preference.
